Nicholas of Metsovo

New Martyr Nicholas of Metsovo, burned alive at Trikala.

Nicholas was a young man from Metsovo in Epirus who, while working in Trikala, was pressured into accepting Islam. Returning home in remorse, he repented and, resolving to confess Christ, went back to Trikala.

Refusing to deny his faith a second time, he was burned alive in 1617. His relics are venerated at Meteora and in Metsovo.

On the New Calendar, Nicholas of Metsovo is commemorated on May 17. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 30 of the civil calendar.
