Hieromartyr Nicholas of Trebizond, priest of Pontus.
St. Nicholas came from Trebizond and lived in the region of Amaseia in Pontus. From youth he wished to dedicate himself to God, and after the death of his wife and child he became a priest and served the faithful with zeal.
He was seized by the Turks, refused to renounce his faith, and received the crown of martyrdom.
Feast day
On the New Calendar, Nicholas of Trebizond is commemorated on February 14. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on February 27 of the civil calendar.
