Sophianos of Dryinoupolis

Saint Sophianos, Bishop of Dryinoupolis and Argyrokastro, teacher of the enslaved Greeks of Epirus.

Saint Sophianos was Bishop of Dryinoupolis in northern Epirus in the seventeenth century and is regarded as a forerunner of Saint Kosmas of Aitolia. He founded a school at the monastery of Saint Athanasios and travelled from village to village to strengthen the Christians against conversion to Islam.

He reposed in 1711, and his relics are venerated in Epirus.

On the New Calendar, Sophianos of Dryinoupolis is commemorated on November 26. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on December 9 of the civil calendar.
