Theodore of Tyre

Great Martyr Theodore Teron.

St. Theodore the Recruit, called Teron, was a young soldier in Asia Minor during the persecutions at the beginning of the fourth century. Refusing to sacrifice to idols, he boldly confessed Christ, and after imprisonment and torture he was given over to death by fire, sealing his faith as a Great Martyr.

The Church also remembers his help after death: through him the faithful were warned to keep from food defiled by idols, and in his memory kolyva is blessed on the first Saturday of Great Lent. His feast is kept on February 17.

On the New Calendar, Theodore of Tyre is commemorated on February 17. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on March 2 (a day earlier in leap years) of the civil calendar.
