• George the Chozebite

  Venerable, Γεώργιος

  St. George the Chozebite was born on the island of Cyprus and became a monk of the monastery of Choziba, in the wild gorge on the road between Jerusalem and Jericho. Living in the seventh century, he embraced great austerity, humility, and unceasing prayer, and in time guided the brotherhood as a spiritual father.

• Domnika of Constantinople

  Holy Woman, Δομνίκη

  St. Domnika came from Carthage to Constantinople in the late fourth century, where she was baptized by the Patriarch Nektarios. She founded a convent in the city and became famous for her ascetic life and gift of prophecy.

• Kyranna the New Martyr

  Holy Woman, Κυράννα

  St. Kyranna was a young woman from the village of Avysoka near Thessaloniki. In 1751, having refused the advances of a Turkish officer and the demand that she change her faith, she was imprisoned and beaten to death.

• Carterios of Caesarea

  St. Carterios was a priest of Caesarea in Cappadocia who instructed many in the faith and built a church for his flock. In the persecution under Diocletian he was arrested, tortured, and finally pierced with a spear.

• Julian and Basilissa

  Martyr, Ιουλιανός και Βασίλισσα

  Sts. Julian and Basilissa were a married couple of Antinoe in Egypt who lived in virginity by mutual agreement and turned their houses into monasteries. In the persecution under Diocletian, Julian was arrested after Basilissa's peaceful repose and suffered martyrdom with many others, among them the priest Antony and the boy Celsus.

  St. Agathon is commemorated on January 8 as a venerable ascetic who reposed in peace. Tradition remembers him for his humility and gentleness in the monastic life.

• Abo of Tbilisi

  St. Abo was an Arab perfumer from Baghdad who came to Georgia in the eighth century and, drawn by the faith of the people, was baptized. He preached Christ openly in Tbilisi under Muslim rule and was beheaded in 786.
