Kyranna the New Martyr

Virgin New Martyr Kyranna of Thessaloniki.

St. Kyranna was a young woman from the village of Avysoka near Thessaloniki. In 1751, having refused the advances of a Turkish officer and the demand that she change her faith, she was imprisoned and beaten to death.

Tradition relates that a heavenly light shone in her cell at the moment of her death. She is commemorated on January 8.
