Julian and Basilissa

Holy Martyrs Julian and Basilissa of Egypt and those with them.

Sts. Julian and Basilissa were a married couple of Antinoe in Egypt who lived in virginity by mutual agreement and turned their houses into monasteries. In the persecution under Diocletian, Julian was arrested after Basilissa's peaceful repose and suffered martyrdom with many others, among them the priest Antony and the boy Celsus.

They are commemorated on January 8.

On the New Calendar, Julian and Basilissa is commemorated on January 8. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on January 21 of the civil calendar.
