Alexandra of Diveyevo

Venerable Alexandra, foundress and first abbess of the Diveyevo convent.

Saint Alexandra, in the world Agatha Melgunova, was a wealthy widow who, guided by a vision of the Theotokos, founded a community of nuns at Diveyevo near Sarov in the eighteenth century. She was known to Saint Seraphim of Sarov, who later cared for the convent, and she reposed in 1789.

On the New Calendar, Alexandra of Diveyevo is commemorated on June 13. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on June 26 of the civil calendar.
