Anna and her son John of Constantinople

Venerable Anna of Constantinople and her son John, who lived as ascetics in the ninth century.

Saint Anna was a widow of Constantinople who, after her husband's death, took her young son John and withdrew to a monastery, where she lived disguised as the monk Euphemianos. Tradition relates that her holiness was revealed only at her repose, and that her son also lived the monastic life in holiness.

On the New Calendar, Anna and her son John of Constantinople is commemorated on June 13. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on June 26 of the civil calendar.
