Anastasia the Roman

Holy Monk-Martyr Anastasia the Roman, the virgin who suffered under Decius.

Anastasia was orphaned at the age of three and raised in a convent near Rome by the abbess Sophia. At twenty, during the persecution of Decius, she was denounced as a Christian and brought before the governor Probus.

Refusing to sacrifice or to marry, she was stretched on the rack, her breasts and tongue were cut off, and she was finally beheaded around 250.

On the New Calendar, Anastasia the Roman is commemorated on October 29. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on November 11 of the civil calendar.
