Anna renamed Euphemianos

Venerable Anna of Constantinople, who lived as the monk Euphemianos.

Anna was a noblewoman of Constantinople in the ninth century who, widowed, gave her goods to the poor and, disguised as a man, entered a monastery on Mount Olympus in Bithynia with the name Euphemianos.

She was recognized only late in life and reposed in peace, honored among the venerable women who hid their sex for the sake of asceticism.

On the New Calendar, Anna renamed Euphemianos is commemorated on October 29. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on November 11 of the civil calendar.
