  St. Anastasios is remembered as a hierarch who served the Church of Constantinople, of whom the synaxaria preserve little beyond his faithful service and holy repose.

• Anastasia the Roman

  Holy Woman, Αναστασία η Ρωμαία

  Anastasia was orphaned at the age of three and raised in a convent near Rome by the abbess Sophia. At twenty, during the persecution of Decius, she was denounced as a Christian and brought before the governor Probus.

  Melitine was a Christian of Marcianopolis in Thrace in the reign of Antoninus. Brought to the temple, she overthrew the idols by her prayer and converted many, including the wife of the governor.

  Anna was a noblewoman of Constantinople in the ninth century who, widowed, gave her goods to the poor and, disguised as a man, entered a monastery on Mount Olympus in Bithynia with the name Euphemianos.

• Timothy of Esphigmenou

  Martyr, Τιμόθεος ο Εσφιγμενίτης

  Timothy, born Triantaphyllos in Thrace, had once accepted Islam under pressure with his wife. Repenting, he went to Mount Athos and became a monk at Esphigmenou, and after preparation by prayer and fasting he returned to Adrianople to confess Christ publicly.

• Athanasios of Sparta in Attaleia

  Athanasios was a priest from Sparta in the region of Attaleia in Asia Minor who was falsely accused by the Turks and pressed to accept Islam.
