Barsos of Damascus

St. Barsos, Bishop of Damascus.

St. Barsos, also known as John-Barsanouphios, was a Palestinian monk who reluctantly accepted consecration as Bishop of Damascus. Longing for stillness, he later laid aside his office and returned to the solitary life.

He reposed in peace, honoured among the holy hierarchs of Syria.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Barsos of Damascus is commemorated on February 28. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on March 13 (a day earlier in leap years) of the civil calendar.
