Euphemia the All-Praised

Great Martyr Euphemia the All-Praised.

St. Euphemia the All-Praised was a virgin martyr of Chalcedon who suffered for Christ during the persecutions at the turn of the fourth century, enduring torture and death rather than sacrifice to idols. Her principal feast is kept on September 16.

On July 11 the Church commemorates the miracle wrought through her relics at the Fourth Ecumenical Council at Chalcedon in 451, when, according to tradition, the definition of the Orthodox faith placed in her tomb was received and confirmed, sealing the true confession of Christ. For this she is called the confirmer of Orthodoxy, and is honored on July 11.

On the New Calendar, Euphemia the All-Praised is commemorated on July 11. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on July 24 of the civil calendar.
