Nektarios of Vryoulla

New Monastic Martyr Nektarios of Vryoulla, who suffered in Asia Minor.

St. Nektarios was born in Vryoulla in Asia Minor and, having been drawn into apostasy in his youth, repented and became a monk in the Skete of St. Anne on Mount Athos. Tradition relates that he returned to his homeland to confess Christ openly.

He was beheaded in 1820 and is honored among the New Martyrs of the Holy Mountain.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Nektarios of Vryoulla is commemorated on July 11. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on July 24 of the civil calendar.
