Nikodemos of Elbasan

New Monastic Martyr Nikodemos of Elbasan in Albania.

St. Nikodemos was from Elbasan in Albania and had fallen into apostasy. Tradition relates that he repented on Mount Athos, became a monk, and returned to confess Christ before those who had known him.

He was beheaded in 1722 and is honored among the New Martyrs.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Nikodemos of Elbasan is commemorated on July 11. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on July 24 of the civil calendar.
