Kanides of Cappadocia

Venerable Kanides of Cappadocia, a hermit who lived from youth in a cave.

Saint Kanides was born in Cappadocia in the time of the emperor Theodosius the Great to pious parents. From his youth he withdrew to a cave, where tradition relates he lived many decades in fasting and prayer, eating only raw vegetables, and reposed in peace at a great age.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Kanides of Cappadocia is commemorated on June 10. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on June 23 of the civil calendar.
