  Timothy, Bishop of Prusa

  Martyr, Τιμόθεος

  The Holy Hieromartyr Timothy was Bishop of Prusa in Bithynia in the fourth century, a shepherd of holy life to whom tradition ascribes the grace of wonderworking. In the days of Julian the Apostate, when the emperor sought to restore the worship of idols, Timothy would not cease preaching Christ, and for his boldness he was imprisoned and put to death.

• Alexander and Antonina, Martyrs

  Holy Woman, Αλέξανδρος και Αντωνίνα

  Saint Antonina was a Christian virgin who, tradition relates, was condemned to a house of shame for refusing to sacrifice to idols. The soldier Alexander, moved by God, exchanged clothes with her so that she might escape, and when this was discovered both were tortured and burned together, in the early fourth century.

• Neaniskos the Martyr

  Martyr, Νεανίσκος

  Saint Neaniskos was a young Christian of Alexandria renowned for wisdom, who confessed Christ before the governor during the persecution of Diocletian. Tradition relates that he was tortured and beheaded, having proclaimed the faith with great eloquence.

• Kanides of Cappadocia

  Venerable, Κανίδης

  Saint Kanides was born in Cappadocia in the time of the emperor Theodosius the Great to pious parents. From his youth he withdrew to a cave, where tradition relates he lived many decades in fasting and prayer, eating only raw vegetables, and reposed in peace at a great age.

• Theophanes and Pansemne of Antioch

  Venerable, Θεοφάνης και Πανσέμνη

  Saint Theophanes was a young man of Antioch who, after being widowed, gave himself to the ascetic life outside the city. Learning of a harlot named Pansemne, he sought her out, gave her money and, tradition relates, persuaded her to abandon her life and follow Christ.

• John of Tobolsk

  Hierarch, Ιωάννης Μαξίμοβιτς Τομπόλσκ

  Saint John was born in 1651 near Nezhin in Ukraine, became a monk of the Kiev Caves and served as archbishop of Chernigov before being sent to Tobolsk in Siberia in 1711. There he sent missionaries to the native peoples and to China, wrote spiritual works and cared generously for the poor.

• Silvanus of the Kiev Caves

  Venerable, Σιλουανός ο εν Κιέβω

  Saint Silvanus was a schemamonk of the Far Caves of the Kiev Lavra in the thirteenth or fourteenth century. Tradition relates that thieves who came to rob the monastery garden were held fast by his prayer until they repented. His relics rest in the Far Caves.
