Theophanes and Pansemne of Antioch

Venerable Theophanes of Antioch and Pansemne, the former harlot whom he brought to repentance.

Saint Theophanes was a young man of Antioch who, after being widowed, gave himself to the ascetic life outside the city. Learning of a harlot named Pansemne, he sought her out, gave her money and, tradition relates, persuaded her to abandon her life and follow Christ.

Pansemne lived in repentance and asceticism near him, and both reposed in the fourth century, honoured together by the Church.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Theophanes and Pansemne of Antioch is commemorated on June 10. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on June 23 of the civil calendar.
