Philip the Apostle (Deacon)

Holy Apostle Philip of the Seven Deacons.

St. Philip was one of the seven deacons chosen by the apostles to serve the early Church in Jerusalem, as the Acts of the Apostles relates. Full of the Holy Spirit, he preached Christ in Samaria with great power, and on the desert road he baptized the Ethiopian eunuch, opening the Gospel to the nations.

Tradition relates that he continued his apostolic labors and served the Church as a bishop in Asia Minor, where his daughters also were known for the gift of prophecy. He is commemorated on October 11.

On the New Calendar, Philip the Apostle (Deacon) is commemorated on October 11. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on October 24 of the civil calendar.
