Venerable Simeon Stylites the Younger.
St. Simeon Stylites the Younger was born in Antioch in the sixth century. Drawn to asceticism from early childhood, he took up the extraordinary struggle of the pillar-dwellers, living for the greater part of his long life atop a column on the mountain near Antioch called the Wonderful Mountain, in unceasing prayer and fasting.
A priest and wonderworker, he counseled and healed the multitudes who climbed to him, and a monastery grew up around his pillar. He reposed in old age near the end of the sixth century, and is commemorated on April 24.
