Thomas the Fool for Christ

Venerable Thomas the Fool for Christ of Syria.

Thomas was a monk of a Syrian monastery who was sent to Antioch on the affairs of his community and there took up the life of a fool for Christ, enduring mockery for the love of God. Tradition relates that wonders followed his death in the sixth century.

He is one of the early holy fools honoured by the Church.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Thomas the Fool for Christ is commemorated on April 24. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 7 of the civil calendar.
