Theosterictus of Symbola

Venerable Theosterictus, abbot of the monastery of Symbola on Mount Olympus in Bithynia.

Venerable Theosterictus was abbot of the monastery of Symbola on the Bithynian Olympus in the ninth century. Tradition relates that he suffered for the veneration of the holy icons during the iconoclast persecution.

He is also remembered as the author of the Small Paraclesis canon to the Theotokos according to some traditions, and reposed in peace.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Theosterictus of Symbola is commemorated on November 10. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on November 23 of the civil calendar.
