• Myron of Cyzicus

  Hierarch, Μύρων

  St. Myron was a presbyter of Cyzicus in Asia Minor who lived in the middle of the third century. Tradition relates that when the governor Antipater burst into the church during the Nativity service, Myron rebuked him openly and was seized, tortured, and cast to wild beasts, which left him unharmed.

  Martyr, Στράτων, Φίλιππος, Ευτυχιανός και Κυπριανός

  These four martyrs preached Christ to the crowds at the theatre of Nicomedia and drew many away from pagan spectacles. Arrested by the governor, they refused to sacrifice and were thrown to wild beasts and then burned.

• Demetrios of Samarina

  Martyr, Δημήτριος ο εκ Σαμαρίνης

  Saint Demetrios was a monk from Samarina in the Pindos mountains who preached to the villagers of Epirus. Suspected of stirring resistance, he was seized by the men of Ali Pasha and tortured to death in Ioannina in 1808.

• Paul and Juliana of Ptolemais

  Martyr, Παύλος και Ιουλιανή

  Saints Paul and Juliana were brother and sister from Ptolemais in Phoenicia who confessed Christ before the Emperor Aurelian. Their endurance under torture moved several of their guards to believe, and these were martyred with them.

• Alypios the Iconographer

  Venerable, Αλύπιος ο Εικονογράφος

  Saint Alypios was a monk of the Kiev Caves Monastery in the eleventh century and one of the first iconographers of Rus. He painted without payment, gave his earnings to the poor and, tradition relates, healed the sick by anointing them with the colours of his palette.

  Saints Thyrsos, Leukios and Koronatos suffered with their companions at Caesarea in Bithynia during the persecution of Decius.
