Angelis the New Martyr of Constantinople

New Martyr Angelis, goldsmith of Constantinople, martyred under the Ottomans.

St. Angelis was a goldsmith of Constantinople in the seventeenth century. Tradition relates that, having once in a moment of weakness been counted among the Muslims, he repented and openly confessed himself a Christian before the Ottoman authorities.

Refusing every inducement to deny Christ, he was condemned and beheaded in Constantinople in 1680. The Church commemorates him on September 1.
