Martha the Mother of Simeon Stylites

Venerable Martha, mother of St. Simeon Stylites of the Wonderful Mountain.

St. Martha was the mother of St. Simeon the Stylite of the Wonderful Mountain, the younger stylite, and lived in the region of Antioch. A woman of great humility and constant prayer, she raised her son in piety and later lived near his pillar, serving the poor and the sick who came to him.

Tradition relates that she was warned of her death in a vision and reposed in peace; her son and his disciples honored her memory with a church. She is commemorated on September 1, alongside the great stylite Simeon the Elder.
