Joshua the Son of Nun

Righteous Joshua the son of Nun, successor of Moses and leader of Israel into the Promised Land.

The righteous Joshua, son of Nun, was the servant and successor of the Prophet Moses. He was one of the twelve spies sent into Canaan and, with Caleb, alone trusted that God would give the land to His people. After the death of Moses he led Israel across the Jordan, took Jericho, and divided the land among the tribes.

The Church honors him as a type of Christ, whose name he bears in its Greek form, and remembers his vision of the Captain of the Lord's host before Jericho. His memory is kept on September 1, the beginning of the Church year.
